Yoga in Hackney

by Aly Hazlewood on January 6, 2013

This is a short little post for those readers of mine that happen to live in Hackney. About a year ago I decided I really wanted to deepen my yoga practice, so I searched the web for a class close to my home. London Fields Yoga, run by the wonderful Elizabeth Garvey, was the nearest location that popped up, so off I went. At that time, the class sizes were small so I really benefited from both the style of yoga (Vinyasa Flow) and Elizabeth’s close attention, particularly as I have 2 herniated discs in my lower spine resulting in a certain nervousness about the more taxing postures.

A year on, and I’ve really fallen in love with yoga thanks to Elizabeth. She trained at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in India, and her calm, patient teaching style has helped my confidence grow significantly. Additionally, I haven’t suffered any back pain at all during this period (which is highly unusual for me). Elizabeth has recently moved her class to a bigger premises at the Arthaus building, it’s a lovely, light filled room and can accomodate her rapidly growing group of yoga devotees. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend you try her classes. She is without doubt, the best yoga teacher I’ve ever practised with.

Also available are Thai Yoga Massage, Reiki and Meditation. I’ve included a link to the London Fields Yoga Facebook group below, and to Elizabeth’s own website. And it’s also worth mentioning that Elizabeth will be running a yoga retreat in early Spring at a beautiful mill house in the mountains behind Tarifa, Spain. Details to follow on the Facebook page.

Thanks for this, I’ve just moved to Hackney and I’ve been keen to find a yoga class so I will check this one out.
