Bodhi Botanical Therapies

by Aly Hazlewood on December 1, 2010

Bodhi Botanical Therapies is a new range of bath products created with the environment and healthy skin in mind. Bodhi means ‘enlightenment’, or directly translated, ‘to awaken’ and this is where the philosophy behind the range is derived.  Their blurb states that “A healthy body, well cared-for skin and a balanced state of mind are essential to promote our general well-being and Bodhi products, with their high content of essential oils, help to achieve this. Using potent plant ingredients and proven traditional remedies from around the world, Bodhi bath and shower therapies aim to make people rethink their personal care and wellness routine.”

Most ‘natural’ products on the market today contain 0.5-1% of essential oils, but Bodhi products contain more than twice this average. This results in longer-lasting fragrances of the luxurious ingredients used, such as jasmine and rose otto absolute. What a fitting environment then to take these products with me to my meditation retreat last weekend. And lovely as that experience was, retreats of this kind are not exactly known for their luxuriousness. Facilities are basic. So having these wonderfully scented products in the shower gave me a blissful little treat each morning.

The snow was thick in Suffolk last weekend, so my favourite was the warm, spicy scent of Pep Noir £22.50 for 250ml, with it’s fusion of Black Pepper, White Thyme and Bergamot. Designed to infuse skin with new life and energy, and impart a restored sense of confidence. Black Pepper is antiseptic, relaxes muscles and helps flush out toxins. Combined with White Thyme and Bergamot, it is uplifting, fortifying and helps increase concentration. Ginger and Coriander work to stimulate the mind and boost circulation. Frankincense and Patchouli both tone skin and activate the regeneration of new skin cells. My skin felt soft and moisturised.

The Botanical Therapies range is free from parabens, sulphates and petrochemicals and is not tested on animals. It uses a trio of mild cleansers derived from coconut oil and fruit sugars to gently cleanse without stripping skin of its natural oils, which means not only do they smell fantastic, they are also good for your skin without harming the environment.
