I’m not ashamed to admit that life has thrown me a few lemons of late, dear readers, and stress levels have been running a bit higher than usual. I tend to carry my stress in my neck and shoulders, and also my stomach, resulting in digestion problems and cramps.
Serendipitously, around this time I discovered the Chi Yu Wellness Centre on George Street. In Japanese, chi yu is ‘healing”, and integrated, holistic Oriental & complimentary therapies are at the core of the Chi Yu philosophy.
I met with Mami Tsang, the serene, smiling founder of Chi Yu, and she carefully took a detailed medical history and talked me through my current health concerns before tailoring a treatment specifically to my needs. Mami is trained in so many Eastern & Western complementary therapies, including Acupuncture, that it would have taken up a whole page in listing them, so I felt in very good hands. Mami had me choose the aromatherapy oils that appealed best, sweet orange, lavender and sandalwood, which were added to the carrier oil (a blend of calendula, rose hip and peach kernel oil to hydrate dry skin). She then employed a combination of aromatherapy, craniosacral therapy, reflexology and a range of massage (Acupressure & Meridian, Deep tissue & Therapeutic, Thai yoga, Tui Na massage) to help ease digestion, calm my mind, and restore and balance my energy levels.
This unique experience not only soothed my tummy and eased the tension in my shoulders, it also left me with a much greater sense of well-being than when I had entered. I really didn’t want the treatment to end. I slept soundly and deeply that night and woke up feeling energized – a rarity for me. I cannot recommend Chi Yu highly enough.
Chi yu also offers an extensive range of wellbeing products to nurture the mind, body & spirit, including teas, candles and books. Next time, I’m going to opt for the Chidoriya Japanese facial – this uses luxury natural skin care products from Japan (stocked exclusively at Chi Yu) combined with acupressure & meridian massage, as well as jade stone rollers to tone, hydrate and nourish the skin. I tested the Kinuoshiroi Face Powder which is made from silk and pearls, and it gave the most luminous, pearlescent glow to my face. It’s expensive at £59.99, but if you can afford it, it’s a wonderful product that leaves skin glowing.
If you want to experience a Chi Yu therapy for yourself, mention my name when booking and you’ll receive 5% off your first treatment.
