It’s always nerve-wracking trying a new hairstylist. Women often get more attached to their hairstylists than their pets or boyfriends. I know one divorcee who suffered a minor meltdown when her hairstylist of 20 years emigrated to Spain, and she now spends every vacation out there so that she can get her colour and cut fix from her favourite coiffeur.
I often have my hair cut on shoots thanks to the generosity of the highly talented session stylists that I have the pleasure of working with, but quite a while had passed since the last cut. I’ve been using Gielly Green’s excellent natural hair care products for some time now, so I thought I’d bite the bullet and visit their new(ish) salon in Marylebone for some long-overdue lowlights, cut and blowdry.
The salon itself is very chi-chi, all muted tones, plush fabrics, elegant flower displays and incredible vibrating massage chairs at the back wash. I had to be prised out of this chair at the end of my shampoo, it is nothing short of bliss. And as you would expect from a Marylebone address that services the rich and famous, it also houses a gorgeous spa area downstairs offering a vast array of treatments including the Ila Facial, which, I’m reliably informed, is one of the best facial treatments in London. Additionally there is a brow and lash studio run by the ‘Queen of Eyebrow Shaping’, Shavata. It really is a one-stop shop.
After a thorough consultation I was persuaded to opt for several slices of colour through my hair, not my usual choice, but I was absolutely thrilled with the results. My new style and colour had a youth-giving effect which was definitely an unexpected bonus. A visit to Gielly Green leaves you feeling very cosseted, which is exactly what you want from a salon. I didn’t feel rushed or bullied into having anything I didn’t want to have which is sometimes the case at certain hairdressing establishments. I just wish I’d booked myself in for an entire day of pampering.
Prices range from a very affordable £50 for a ladies cut and finish to £115 for the Creative Director (who I can’t recommend highly enough). You can find them here.
