So I’ve come to Cyprus for a bit of winter sun, Pilates, power plate and healthy eating, leaving a balmy, unseasonably warm Britain behind. Needless to say it is freezing here. The taxi driver told me it snowed yesterday, and apparently it hasn’t done that for 10 years. My friends would call that ‘Hazlewood hazards’ because I’m notorious for having a fairly constant stream of dubious bad luck.
Anyway, it’s time to dig out a bit of Dunkirk spirit and make the best of it, after all, I’m really here to tone up a bit and build some core strength to help my ailing back condition. Getting some semblance of a tan on this sallow winter skin would have been a definite plus, but you can’t have everything.
This wintry weather also means I’ll have some time to blog from my iPad (minus the pretty pictures because I still haven’t worked out how to do that from this device!) which is a bonus as I’ve been without a laptop at home, so blogging has taken a back seat.
I brought lots of lovely products with me to test out, and additionally the Aphrodite Hills hotel where I’m staying has lots of gorgeous Korres goodies in the bathroom, so no doubt I’ll review a few of those too.
First up is the REN Tonic Moisture Mist which I took in my hand luggage (it’s a handy 50ml bottle) to hydrate my skin. I always take a hydrating mist on flights, it’s a total skin saviour, and I usually favour Caudalie or Avene, but this time I thought I’d try REN’s version.
Fig extract cools and refreshes the skin, ginseng root boosts energy and decongests, while wonder ingredient hyaluronic acid binds water to the skin, boosting hydration and plumpness. This last ingredient is essential in a hydration spray. I used to use the Evian spray on flights until I was informed that it can actually dehydrate skin even further. It is simply water, and obviously when you spray water on your face it dries, or evaporates, effectively taking your skin’s own moisture with it. I’m sure I haven’t explained that in the most technically accurate way, but you get my drift.
Back to REN. The Moisture Mist has a lovely, refreshing scent, so much so, the woman in the next seat asked if I could spritz her face too. Whereas the man sat on the other side of me gave us a very odd look.
I apply liberally, at least once an hour during flights, in fact it becomes strangely addictive. I’m paranoid about my skin drying out on flights and I can happily report that this tonic prevented that altogether. It stands up well to both the Caudalie and the Avene version, which simply means I can chop and choose depending on my mood. I just make sure to apply a bit of translucent powder before landing as it can leave your face looking a little shiny.
Tip – this is also a great product to carry in your handbag during the warmer months if you have to schlep around on the unfathomably hot subway system. It makes the sweaty commute that bit more bearable.
50ml is £18 and a little goes a very long way. You can buy online from http://www.renskincare.com/p/3443.
